In A Hurry? Go Straight To The List

In this article I have gathered the best coffee maker under 50 dollars for every category.

My time as a barista didn’t really give me a lot of experience with cheap coffee makers. So I had to do a lot of research for this one.

Thankfully I went to college! So I know what a lifesaver a coffee machine can be, even a cheap one. So I skimmed through hundreds of customer reviews and product reviews to gather the best coffee makers under 50 dollars.

Finding a coffee machine under 50 dollars isn’t really a challenge. But finding a coffee maker under 50 dollars that makes decent coffee and won’t break after 2 weeks can be a bit tougher.

I know that when I was in college I went through like 3 coffee makers every year. Now I’m not saying that it wasn’t user error but a lot of the blame can be put on the quality of the machines as well. I basically just bought the cheapest coffee maker I could find without doing any research or knowing how to pick them.

Here Is What This Article Will Cover :

What to look for when buying a coffee maker under $50

Brew Capacity

How much coffee you will need per serving should determine the size of your coffee maker. If you live alone you don’t need to go for a large machine like you would if you are planning to serve an entire family. Usually machines with less brew capacity will be cheaper.

Quality

Here you wanna look at materials and build quality.

When it comes to materials you aren’t really escaping plastic (for the most part). But plastics can vary in quality substantially. If you have access to the coffee maker in-store you can usually feel when the plastic is cheap and prone to cracking. You can also check out customer reviews or pick one of the options on this list.

For build quality you will have to check customer reviews or the product description since it is hard to determine long term durability at first glance. If you are looking for a coffee maker that will last you for a long time you probably need to spend more than 50 dollars or buy second hand.

Ease Of Use and Brew Time

The last thing you want to do when you wake up in the morning is to solve a rubik’s cube just to get your cup of coffee. So a simple workflow is crucial for me at least. Alternatively you want a coffee maker that you can set up in the evening and then just press a button in the morning.

Try looking for a coffee maker with a short brewtime as well so you don’t have to wait too long.

Overall Size

The overall footprint of your coffee machine needs to be suited to your living space. If you live in a dorm room or RV for example you need to look for a coffee maker with a small footprint (or check out my pick for best coffee maker under 50 dollars for small spaces).

Best Coffee makers under 50 dollars

In this list I have focused on drip machines when choosing the best coffee makers under 50 dollars. But I have also added a pick for best french press, espresso and mocha if that’s more to your liking.

Best Overall – Bella 14755 12 Cup

best coffee maker under 50 dollars

  • Dimensions W : 9.72, D : 7.16, H : 13.62
  • 12 cups and a 1-4 cup setting
  • programmable brew time
  • auto shut off
  • stainless steel accents
Check out on Amazon

The Bella 14755 won my top spot for best coffee maker under 50 dollars because it has the ultimate combination of performance, value and ease of use. Plus, for around 50 dollars I think it looks pretty damn good as well.

Performance wise, the Bella 14755 will give you 12 cups of coffee in a relatively short time. While it isn’t a “smart machine” the Bella will let you choose the amount of cups you want, between 1-4, as well as the brew strength.

The LCD display lets you set brew times and settings. This means that you can program the Bella to make you coffee at a preset time of your choosing.

This machine also comes with a 2 hour auto shut off which is great if you tend to forget to turn off your machine. Which I of course never forget…

The cleaning process is a breeze thanks to the automatic cleaning program. Since most people don’t clean their coffee maker nearly enough an auto cleaner will guarantee a longer lifespan and better tasting coffee.

While 50 dollars obviously won’t get you the highest quality machine the Bella actually holds its own against more expensive machines. The build quality is actually fairly high and the stainless steel details are a really nice touch.

All in all this is a fantastic choice for an all round drip coffee machine. Features like the programmable time, self cleaning and stainless steel accents makes the Bella stand out as the top contender for all round best coffee machine under 50 bucks.

Easiest to use – Capresso SG220 12-Cup

  • Dimensions H : 12¼”  W : 6¾”  L : 8¾”
  • Great customer reviews
  • Can pour coffee mid brew
  • Programmable brew time
  • Easy to clean
Check out on Amazon

The Capresso SG220 is not only easy to use, it is an all-around great coffee maker with great customer reviews. But at this price there are always trade offs.

So let’s go through some of the positives and negatives of the SG220 and see if this machine might be for you.

The performance you get from the Capresso is comparable to the Bella 14755. Although you can’t get the 1-4 cup setting like the Bella, you can choose between 4-12 cups. The Capresso also lets you pour your coffee mid-brew thanks to its drip-stop feature.

The Capresso is programmable as well which means you can use the LCD display to set the brew time of your choosing. Perfect if you like waking up to freshly brewed coffee in the morning.

The removable GoldTone™ filter makes buying filters a thing of the past and is something users seem to enjoy a lot.

The cleaning process is easy. The removable parts are dishwasher safe, including the filter, so cleaning the Capresso is simply a matter of throwing it into the dishwasher.

The stainless steel accents and backlit LCD display add a classy touch to the look and are easy to wipe off with a rag.

Some people have had issues with the drip-stop not working as intended but have solved the issue with a little tweaking to the filter holder. The brewing can be a bit loud so you might not want to put the Capresso on your nightstand if that is your MO.

All things considered however this is a great machine for the price that does exactly what it is supposed to do; make you consistently good coffee while being easy to use. Making this the best coffee maker under 50 dollars for ease of use.

Best Small – Gevi 5-Cup

  • Dimensions H :10.4″  W : 5.9″  D : 7.9″
  • Compact size
  • Reusable filter
  • Fast brewer
Check out on Amazon

Looking for a coffee maker for your dorm room, RV or maybe just a small kitchen? Then the Gevi 5-cup is what you are looking for.

As long as you can survive on a 5-cup brew size the Gevi gives you all you need in a budget coffee maker.

Let’s start off with performance as usual. The backlit LCD display lets you program the brew time of your choice so that you can wake up to a fresh cup of joe. But if you forget to set the timer there is no need to worry because this is a fast brewer.

The main selling point of the Gevi 5-cup is its size. The small footprint lets you place this in anything from a small kitchen to an RV. The stainless steel details on the more “expensive” variant is a nice touch for such a cheap machine.

The Gevi has a few good-to-have features as well. The reusable filter is a nice touch, both for the environment and the budget, and the hotplate keeps the coffee warm for up to 2 hours before the auto-shutoff kicks in.

Downsides people tend to bring up are expected for machines in this price range. The water reservoir seems to be a bit difficult to refill without spilling and the auto shut-off is not adjustable.

All in all this budget brewer truly punches above its weight class in terms of features and performance. Add to that the small size and stainless steel accents and you have got yourself the best coffee maker under 50 dollars for small spaces.

Best Single Serve – Hamilton Beach Single Serve

  • Dimensions D : 9.9″  W : 13.07″  H: 6″
  • Doesn’t use K-cups
  • Small footprint
  • Good quality
  • Nice stainless steel design
Check out on Amazon

The Hamilton Beach Single Serve is a very niched coffee maker, with not too much competition. The single serve coffee maker market is full of k-cup machines, so it’s nice to see something different entirely.

Performance wise the Hamilton makes better coffee than most k-cup machines, and it will make you a 14 ounce cup in under 3 minutes.

You can also choose between regular or bold brew. Some people claim the regular to be a bit weak so maybe stick with the bold. Keep in mind that not having to use k-cups means you can play around with your own grind to perfect the taste.

The exterior of the Hamilton Beach is a major selling point. The build quality is sturdier than you would expect and the stainless steel design makes for a unique and premium look.

The drip tray and cup rest is something users seem to enjoy a lot. The drip tray is well designed to gather any spilled coffee and the cup rest can be raised or lowered to fit your cup.

There are a few downsides to the Hamilton however. The fact that the water reservoir can not be removed can be a bit annoying at first if you are not used to it. Also, getting the coffee strong enough can need some adjusting, although this depends entirely on your taste.

All in all the Hamilton is a great machine that is packed into a tiny package. The downsides to this machine are more than compensated for by the many features such as quality, size and lack of k-cups. Truly the best coffee maker under 50 dollars for single serve use.

Best For Cold Brew – Primula Pace

  • Versatile
  • can be used as storage
  • keeps coffee fresh for up to 14 days
  • 7500 positive reviews on amazon
Check out on Amazon

The Primula Pace stands out on this list for two reasons. The first is that you don’t need any electricity to make great coffee with this one. The second is that you can use this to make more than just coffee, such as ice tea.

The Primula Pace has a capacity of 6 cups per serving and is made out of borosilicate glass for temperature resistance. The lid is sealed and will keep coffee fresh for up to 14 days in the fridge.

The center of the pitcher is where the filter is. Here you can put anything from coffee to fruits depending on what you want to make. Some people have complained that the filter can struggle with finer grounds but that seems to be the exception not the rule.

When it comes to cleaning it consists of basically just throwing the entire thing in the dishwasher. You can ofcourse hand wash it but be careful since some people claim that it can be prone to shattering if you are too violent.

For the price you really can’t fault the Primula Pace for much honestly. It delivers on all fronts where it matters and the 7500 positive ratings on amazon seem to support that. So if you are looking for a cold brew setup, this is your best bet for the money.

Best For French Press – Espro P3

  • Modern take on classic design
  • Double filter design
  • Dishwasher safe
  • good quality for the price
Check out on Amazon

The Espro P3 is a top choice for any french press enthusiast as well as anyone looking for a budget way to make coffee. All you need to make delicious coffee with the Espro is a way to boil water, making this a great choice for RV or camping as well.

To start off, the Espro P3 looks great. The black details and the glass beaker match well. Combine that with the double filters and the Espro looks like a modern design take on the classic french press look.

The user experience on the Espro is pleasant. The pushdown is easy and smooth and the double filters don’t cause as much resistance as you might think. One serving with the Espro will give you about 3 cups.

Thanks to the double filters you can let the coffee sit in the Espro for up to an hour without the coffee becoming over extracted.

Now onto the double filters, do they actually make a difference? Well yes but maybe not as much as advertised. A lot of users say that they do their job and significantly reduce the amount of sludge. But a minority claim little to no difference.

The variation in results suggests that it depends on how you use it and what type of grind you’re putting into your press. I would say that the double filters are a bonus to an otherwise great press and should not be seen as the main selling point on their own.

Finally the Espro P3 is dishwasher safe and screws apart easily for cleaning.

All in all the Espro P3 is a great choice for a french press with high quality, good looks and a nice user experience. This adds up to the best coffee maker under 50 dollars for french press.

Best For “Espresso” – Best Portable – AeroPress

  • Closest thing to espresso for the price
  • Started a coffee making championship
  • Super portable
  • Simple to use
  • Durable
Check out on Amazon

How many coffee makers for under 50 bucks have started a championship? Answer… One, the AeroPress. Every year the AeroPress championship gathers some of the top barista’s in a competition to determine who can make the best coffee using the AeroPress coffee maker.

So let’s do a quick rundown of this little gadget and see what makes it so special.

To start off let’s look at what you can and can’t make using the AeroPress. To be honest I kind of clickbaited you by saying that the AeroPress can make espresso.

It actually can’t make true espresso, but it can make a highly concentrated shot that is as close to espresso as you can get for under 50 bucks.

Now with that out of the way I can say that you can make one or maaaaybe two servings in one go with the AeroPress. The process is really straight forward as well, you basically just add coffee and water, and then you press… Mastering the AeroPress is another question entirely though.

The quality of this thing started off good and has gotten even better by the updating of the plastics to make them more scratch resistant and durable.

The design is made to be simple and portable. You can take this with you wherever you go, and the simple design means that the cleaning is super easy.

The downsides to this thing are the obvious compromises that have to be made such as capacity, comfort, automation and more.

But those aren’t really negatives since the mission for AeroPress is to make the most portable and simple coffee maker in the world, and they have succeeded without a doubt.

All in all this thing is a fun addition to your coffee making toolbox. It can go anywhere and doesn’t require any maintenance or skill to make it work. Making this the best coffee maker under 50 bucks for both portability and “espresso like” capbilities.

Best For Moka – Bialetti Express

  • Beautiful
  • Made in Italy
  • Easy to clean
  • Unique taste and user experience
Check out on Amazon

The Bialetti Moka Express is probably the most beautiful coffee maker you can get for under 50 bucks. This classic italian design never grows old, and as long as you maintain the Bialetti it will serve you loyally for years.

The Bialetti, like most moka pots, is made up of three parts; the water reservoir, the coffee holder and the top chamber were the coffee pours into (I obviously just made those names up but you get the jist).

All the parts are made in Italy out of aluminum. The build feels high quality and adds nicely to the user experience.

I would go for the 6 cup model since it adds a bit more versatility while not costing that much more than the two cup model.

Operating the Bialetti moka pot doesn’t differ from using any other moka pot. Moka pots require a bit more work than a regular drip coffee machine but the act of making the coffee is part of what makes them so special.

Keep in mind that coffee from a moka pot has a unique taste and tastes best with at least a bit of milk added. But that’s just my opinion, some people actually prefer that taste.

The cleaning process is very simple and consists of rinsing the three parts after every use to avoid buildup in the pot. You can choose to do this with or without soap. I tend to just rinse the thing under warm water after every use.

All in all the Bialetti Moka Express is a top contender of best coffee maker under 50. If you enjoy a bit stronger coffee and a bit more rustic feel to your coffee routine then this is the machine for you.

Best K-cup Coffee Maker Under $50

The CHULUX Single Serve Coffee Maker would have to be my top choice for a coffee maker that uses k-cups.

The good thing with the Chulux single serve is that you can use ground coffee as well. It might not perform as well with ground coffee as the Hamilton Beach Single Serve but the versatility is a quality in and of itself.
